The Mount Vernon School opens Preschool at 471 Mt. Vernon Highway, NE.

July 22, 2003

The School and the Mount Vernon Woods Community Association enter into an Agreement in which the School agreed to certain development and use conditions and the Association agreed to support the School’s Special Use Permit request. 

The Agreement became effective on the date of execution and remains “in full force and effect through midnight of the date immediately preceding the 20th anniversary of the date of issue of the initial building permit for the property” at 510 Mt. Vernon Highway, NE. 

Fulton County issued building permits in 2005, so the agreement will expire in 2025.

The Fulton County Board of Commissioners approves issuance of the Special Use Permit.

February 8,  2005

The School purchases the 30-acre property at 510 Mt. Vernon Highway, NE.

February 17, 2005

The declaration of covenants, conditions, and restrictions that the School entered into at the time of purchase for the 30-acre property, is recorded.

This declaration terminates automatically after a period of 20 years after the declaration is recorded. Scenarios also exist that could terminate the declaration earlier.

This declaration will expire, at the latest, in February 2025.

Fulton County permits construction plans for the 30-acre property, and construction of the Upper Campus begins soon after.

Fall 2006

The original phase of property development on the Upper Campus is completed which includes Middle/Upper School building, gymnasium, main athletic field, and softball/baseball field.

November 20, 2007

City of Sandy Springs approves a zoning modification and concurrent variances for the School property.

Fall 2012

The Mustang Athletic Center is completed as a part of the phasing to the original concept plan established at the time of permitting in 2005.

November 17, 2015

City of Sandy Springs approves a rezoning request by Ashton Woods for approximately 36 acres adjoining the School that was later developed for the Aria West Community. A condition of this rezoning required that “a minimum of ten (10) acres shall be dedicated to recreational fields.”

March 15, 2016

The School purchases the 10 acres earmarked for recreational fields. At the time of purchase, the School enters a declaration of restrictive covenants covering the 10-acre parcel. This declaration requires the 10-acre property to be used “only for recreational and athletic fields and appurtenant facilities” and restricts lighting on the fields. The Declaration is drafted to remain in effect “perpetually to the extent provided by law…”

The 10-acre parcel is consolidated with the original 30-acre tract to create a single, 40-acre lot for Upper Campus.

July 18, 2017

The Sandy Springs City Council approves a Special Use Permit and concurrent variances for the School to update the School’s long range facility plan (performing arts facility, parking lot, gymnasium, support buildings). Condition #3.d. limits the School from lighting its outdoor recreational fields.

The Upper School Building is completed as a part of Phase I of the development plan approved in 2017. 

Fall 2023

The School commences its capital campaign to fund Phase II development of the athletic fields on the 10 acres acquired in 2016.

February 17, 2025

The declaration of covenants, conditions, and restrictions covering the original 30-acre property automatically terminates. 

Summer 2025

The School breaks ground to develop two practice fields on the 10 acre property (pending the fundraising goal is met).

September 14, 2025

The 2003 Agreement between the School and the Mount Vernon Woods Community Association expires.
